I began this blog in the summer of 2010, soon after returning to the classroom. I had spent nearly fifteen years out of the classroom providing support to students, teachers, staff and district administration in the area of technology in our district. I had not realized this was still sitting here and had been idle all this time.
I am looking for ways to provide support to students during the "Safer-at-home" COVID-19. Most of my students are high school seniors. They don't attend when I offer office hours over Zoom
or Google Hangouts
. They do ask questions by email, lots of them. I am available to call student back, I used Google Hangout to do that with one student and his parent this afternoon. I will not use my personal phone to text or call students or families since our district has set strict guidelines that prohibit it and doing so will incur severe consequences.
I have created videos, recordings of myself speaking to the students, posted them on YouTube and linked them in Google Classroom. I will let you know how successful the students find these. Here are some suggestions I have found that do work.
What suggestions do you have and what strategies have worked for you?
